Nation Business-Operation Pesadilla
Some 400 agents and officers fanned out early Wednesday into Little Village to arrest many of the 40 Latin Kings hit with federal or state charges. Among those charged in the operation were the "Supreme Regional Officer" as well as 32 "Incas" and "Casiques," top leaders in the gang's block-by-block organization. "We essentially eliminated their entire command and control structure," said Rob Grant, the FBI's leader in Chicago. Grant also noted that nicknames for some of those charged included "Lil' Psycho" and "Baby Trigger, these are not safe people."
Among those charged in the drug conspiracy case was Vicente Garcia, 30, of Bolingbrook, identified by authorities as the gang's No. 2 leader. Garcia, who succeeded Fernando "Ace" King as the gang's "Supreme Inca"after King was convicted in July in another federal prosecution Investigators methodically built a case as the wired informant made the rounds handing out drugs and collecting money from gang supervisors month after month. Investigators dubbed their work Operation Pesadilla, Spanish for nightmare.
The undercover recordings captured Garcia issuing a decree that each Inca in the 24 Latin Kings sections controlled by the Little Village region of the gang sell a quarter-ounce of cocaine twice a month to generate revenue for the "Nation Box," a kitty the gang used to pay for guns, drugs, funerals and legal fees, authorities said. The cooperating witness, identified only as "CW1," was among Garcia's closest confidants, according to a criminal complaint unsealed Wednesday. A member of the Latin Kings section at 30th Street and Sawyer Avenue since 1993, he was one of the gang's enforcers and was entrusted to hand out "Little Village Laws" to the gang's section leaders, or Incas.
"The gang's corporatelike structure is usually one of its strengths, today, it became a weakness" U.S. Atty. Patrick Fitzgerald told reporters.

Obama Watch- Renegade
31-year old Omhari Sengstacke, the the grandson of the "Chicago Defender" publisher John Sengstacke, was arrested yesterday for being a habitual line stepper. Sengstacke reportedly was too close to the FBI security perimeter near Obama's home. Police found a gun and a bullet proof vest in his car after returning to the area after being told to leave. Police say he appeared to be intoxicated, though he never posed a threat to Obama or his family. Family members of Sengstacke's say it was not an act of aggression.

Behind The Hate-Where Was DCFS
An off-duty Chicago police officer shot and killed his son and daughter, was identified by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Dannie Marchan, 29. His daughter was identified as Alizay Marchan, 7. The children were found with bullet wounds to their bodies inside the officer's home in the 2700 block of West 43rd Street, about 10:45 a.m., police spokeswoman Monique Bond said. The man was found with what appeared to be a homicide gunshot wound in the head.
Officer Dannie Marchan was a 4-year veteran of the department who worked in the Englewood District, was pronounced dead at 12:22 p.m. at the scene. First Deputy Supt. James Jackson said police believe the officer and his ex-wife had joint custody of the children and had been divorced for about three years.

Trendsetters-Imam W. Deen Mohammed
Wallace D. Mohammed was born Oct. 30, 1933, in Detroit, the seventh of eight children of Elijah and Clara Muhammad. He was the minister of the Nation of Islam's mosques in Chicago and Philadelphia in the 1950s in 1961, Mohammed was sent to federal prison in Minnesota for refusing, on the basis of Nation of Islam teachings, induction into the U.S. military. In 1964, Mohammed told a Chicago reporter "The man I looked to all my life, thinking he was loved and guided by God more than any man on Earth, turned out not to be that kind of man at all." Expelled from the Nation of Islam for his criticism he was finally restored to grace in 1974, six months before his father's death. Farrakhan was expected to succeed Elijah Muhammad but in 1975, a closed-door family council chose Mohammed to succeeded his father as the chief imam of the Nation of Islam, a religious movement that connected black nationalism with Islamic faith. He immediately tried to move its followers toward traditional Islam, which led to a split in 1978 between Mohammed's World Community of al-Islam in the West and those who joined a revived Nation of Islam under Minister Louis Farrakhan who said he would follow the teachings of Elijah Muhammad. His followers refer to the period when Mohammed took over the Nation as "The Second Resurrection."
He began preaching a more universal religious message. He also cut back on the group's commercial empire, saying business ventures distracted the movement from its religious mission. Mohammed's changes produced a backlash within the group, of all his innovations, the most costly in terms of lost followers was his rejection of black supremacy. Despite their differences, Mohammed and Farrakhan reconciled in a series of joint appearances starting in 1999 and pledged to work together. He achieved historic milestones for Muslim-Americans. In 1992, he became the first Muslim to deliver an invocation to the U.S. Senate. In 1993 and 1997, he recited from the Holy Quran at President Bill Clinton's two inaugural interfaith prayer services.
In his later years, Mohammed lessened his visibility as the final steps in his efforts to restructure his organization into a loose group of organizations without a central charismatic figure. He focused more on his non-profit ministry, The Mosque Care and building interfaith relations with Pope John Paul II and Cardinal Francis. Yvonne Haddad, professor of Islam and Christian-Muslim relations at Georgetown, said
"He will be remembered as a person who brought the Nation of Islam carefully and consistently into mainline Islam. He single-handedly re-educated many of the imams schooled by the Nation of Islam, restoring their American patriotism and the original teachings of Islam, one of his highest priorities was uniting African-American Muslims and immigrant Muslim communities."

The Cabrini Green housing projects located on the wealthy end of the North Side known as the Gold Coast popularized by movies and tv such as Good Times, Cooley High Candy Man, The History Channel's Gangland and made infamous by Mayor Jayne Byrne, the Gangster Disciples, the vicious attack of "Girl X" and the subject of the video below the 1992 shooting of seven year old Dantrell Davis in an area referred to in the 90's as "the killing fields" because of sniper fire between gangs at war for money power and respect. Sixteen years later Cabrini Green's high rise buildings have been destroyed and rebuilt into mixed income housing Chicago gangs the Mickey Cobras and Gangster Disciples have relocated to different city blocks but have the city streets and city hall learned from the politics of Chicago's past? The question was rhetorical. Labor Day weekend's 2008 shooting on the 8700 block of 10 year old Nequiel Williams while tieing her blind 5 year old sister's shoe tells me my city ain't learned sh!t.

Chicago residents Pena, Raymond Jones, 18, and Joey Chico, 23 as well as Sauk Village resident Antoine Lacy, 25, are each charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder, Chicago police spokesman John Mirabelli said Nequiel Williams had stopped to tie the shoes of her younger sister, who is blind, when Luis Pena, 20, of Chicago, opened fire on Nequiel and the others from a gangway she was hit by a bullet on her left side. The children were not the intended targets, he said, adding that the men were members of the Latin Dragons gang. The men are scheduled to appear in Bond Court on Thursday.
