Behind The Hate-Chicago Transit Authority
Starting Jan. 1, fares will increase as much as 50 cents to $2.25 a ride on CTA buses. The CTA board lowered the proposed increase on a 30-day pass from $90 to $86 increased from $75. Pace's board of directors approved a budget calling for fare hikes to $1.75 on all routes from $1.50. Pace approved a new Pace/CTA seven-day pass for passengers who use both CTA and Pace it will cost $29 and go on sale at the beginning of 2009. After Dec. 31, Pace will no longer accept the CTA seven-day pass.
Metra feeder and local fare zone routes found in Joliet, Aurora, Elgin and Waukegan will increase from $1.25 to $1.75.

What will it cost to park at a downtown meter?
-The $3 an hour fee to park at prime Loop spots increases to $3.50. After that, the price goes up 75 cents a year through 2013, when it hits $6.50 an hour. Elsewhere downtown, the $1 an hour will double to $2 next year and hit $4 an hour in 2013.
What will it cost to park at meters in city neighborhoods?
-Meters that now cost a quarter for an hour will increase to $1, with an extra quarter tacked on each year through 2013, when the price reaches $2 an hour.
When will the new rates take effect, assuming the Chicago City Council approves the deal?
-On Jan. 1 officially, All meters must be fitted for credit cards by summer 2011.
Who will write the parking tickets for expired meters?
-The city will write tickets, but the new operator will be able to as well. The city will continue to collect and keep fine payments.
What will the city get?
-Nearly $1.2 billion at the start of the 75-year lease.
What can people who don't like the idea do?
-They can call their alderman, who will vote on the plan Thursday, and voice their objections. In Oak Park, the Village Board rolled back parking meter increases this fall back to $1 an hour after initially raising them to $1.50 in the busiest areas.

The undercover operation began in early 2007 where an undercover agent posed as an employee of the Skybox a Harvey strip club the alleged smoking gun of police corruption where he met two sheriff's officers Ahyetoro "Red" Taylor and Raphael Manuel, who sold drugs to agents later providing security for deals in the parking lot at Target, 17601 South Halsted St., Homewood on Aug. 1, 2007, for a set-up deal at the Holiday Inn at 183rd Street and Harlem Avenue, Tinley Park, on Aug. 22, 2007 and again in a deal for 25 kilos of cocaine at Cracker Barrel restaurant at 18531 North Creek Drive, Tinley Park, Oct. 24, 2007. Manuel reassured undercover agents, the county motto was "They pay us for what we might have to do, not for what we do."
In May, a plane landed at DuPage Airport, where jail guards Taylor and Manuel boarded and allegedly began counting what they thought were 80 kilos of cocaine stashed in four duffel bags. Also caught up in the sting was Harvey officer and Metra conductor Archie Stallworth, who is accused of accompanying an undercover agent to DuPage Airport on Aug. 11 and accepting $1,000 after handling three duffel bags purportedly containing 30 kilos of cocaine. Harvey officer Dwayne Williams is accused of taking $400 to provide muscle during a purported $100,000 poker game staged by FBI agents. Fellow officer Antoine D. Dudley allegedly got $400 in protection money.
According to the common affidavit, the undercover agent paid a total of $44,000 to 16of the defendants, not including an additional $1,000 to Archie Stallworth. The largest shares allegedly were paid to Taylor ($15,000) and Raphael Manuel ($14,500), respectively, for providing security during alleged drug transactions in Metra stations. Of the 17 defendants, 10 are Cook County Sheriff’s correctional officers, four are Harvey police officers and one is a Chicago police officer. They allegedly accepted between $400 and $4,000 each on one or more occasions to serve as lookouts and be ready to intervene if real police or rival drug dealers attempted to interfere with transfers of cocaine and heroin, according to the affidavit.
