bear jordan reports Pop music critic Jim DeRogatis was subpoenaed to appear at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse after avoiding a warrant for his arrest yesterday by Judge Gaughan for missing a hearing due to his attorney Damon Dunn filing a notice of appeal in the wrong court. The Sun Times critic who has written unfavorably of R Kelly in the past recently reported that "Whatever the outcome of his trial on charges of making child pornography, R. Kelly is overdue to relinquish the crown that he's worn as the king of R and B since the mid-'90s." Derogatis only testimony while on the stand was this "I respectfully decline to answer the question on the advice of counsel on the grounds that to do so would contravene the reporter's privilege, the special witness doctrine and my rights under the Illinois Constitution, and the First and Fifth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution." R Kelly's defense team argued "being a reporter does not give you a license to commit crimes." The crime in question is "whether DeRogatis manipulated, morphed or copied the video and passed a copy to police to investigate." Derogatis "who first wrote about allegations of Kelly's inappropriate relationships with teenage girls in 2000, received the sex tape anonymously in early 2002." All interview notes regarding a meeting from 2002 between Derogatis and former R Kelly protege Sparkle will be reviewed by Judge Gaughan. During questioning DeRogatis' attorney made the following statement during the trial "if Mr. DeRogatis had not come forward with the tape...this prosecution would not have happened."
