Wild 100's-Say NO To Bongs

Kenneth McAllister says he was fired from his job at a south suburban gas station for wearing a T-shirt with an anti-drug message. He wrote this message on a white T-shirt: "SAY NO TO BONGS!!'' McAllister said he was upset when, about three weeks ago, the Citgo station in Homewood started selling bongs, glass pipes and baggies full of fake marijuana.

"This is crossing the line," he said Thursday. "It condones pot use. Honestly, I've smoked in the past. But I believe everything has a time and place." Homewood Police Sgt. Mike MacDonald said the manager argued that was the case. "It's ridiculous. I've never heard of someone smoking tobacco out of a bong," MacDonald said. "C'mon, who are you trying to fool?"

Police then contacted the station owner, Ramesh Gupta, and told him to stop selling the products, and he did. Gupta refused to comment about McAllister. McAllister said he's not upset about being fired. "A job is a job is a job. . . . It's the principle of it -- [bongs] cannot be in front of kids.
