Esperanza Medina, 48, a social worker was attacked in Logan Square Tuesday morning by three assailants who used sulfuric acid to rob Medina. Esperanza Medina remains in stable condition at Stroger Hospital with burns on 23 percent of her body and will need skin grafts to repair damage Wendy McEvoy, Medina's daughter, said injuries from the attack have made it impossible for her mother to open her eyes and talk and requires a breathing tube. Her family said they don't know if the incident was a random attack or if it had anything to do with a string of threatening phone messages Medina received.
